How to Install a Transmission Mount on a VW MK7/MK7.5 GTI

Transmission mounts attach the transmission to the vehicle’s frame while cushioning vibrations and other movements caused by the powertrain.

Adding more power to a front-wheel drive performance car like the GTI can make obtaining traction difficult, as the front wheels will struggle to both manage the increased power and drive the car at the same time. Upgrading your GTI’s trans mount will help put the power to the ground, and can improve launches and handling on both stock and modified cars.

How do I know if I have a bad transmission mount?

In addition to performance gains, trans mounts may need to be replaced if they have worn out, which may happen on higher-mileage vehicles. Symptoms of a bad transmission mount include noticeable vibrations during gear changes, excessive driveline noise (a knocking or whining sound) when accelerating/decelerating, or a change in shifter feel in manual transmission cars.  Stock transmission mounts are typically made of rubber, so you can also inspect your car's mount to see if it has any cracks or other damage. If so, it's time to upgrade.
