Without the right socket, the shock body will spin freely when you try to loosen the strut top nut without air tools. These sockets let you hold and turn the nut properly. Both sizes are included — most VW/Audi models use a 21mm retaining nut from the factory, while many aftermarket coilovers use 22mm.
The front strut on most VW and Audi models sits in a pinch-bolt steering knuckle that needs to be spread open before the strut will drop out. There are workarounds, but this tool makes the job significantly easier and reduces the risk of damaging the knuckle.
