The valve cover on MK8 GTI or Golf R 2.0t engine holds the camshafts down in the cylinder. This functions as the cam bearing, and can potentially leak oil.
This engine doesnt use a traditional valve cover gasket, instead Volkswagen and Audi use anerobic sealant to prevent oil from leaking out. Once the valve cover on your engine is removed you will need to remove the old sealant from all surfaces. This includes cleaning out the channel that sealant sits in on the cam cage/valve cover.
