The Girodisc front brake rotor system is a direct replacement for the factory OE discs and installs with no modifications required. These rotors bolt directly to the vehicle and work seamlessly with OEM calipers, preserving factory brake bias and ABS functionality.
By upgrading to lightweight, high-performance replacement rotors rather than a big brake kit, you maintain proper system balance while reducing both rotational and unsprung weight. Girodisc front rotors weigh approximately 13.0 lbs per rotor, compared to 15.3 lbs for the factory units, helping improve acceleration, braking response, and suspension performance.
Each rotor features a two-piece floating design. The center hat is CNC-machined from U.S.-sourced 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, while the friction ring is cast from Girodisc’s proprietary iron alloy, poured in the USA and fully machined in-house from start to finish.
Cooling efficiency is enhanced through a curved internal vane design, developed from motorsport applications, which acts as a centrifugal pump to draw cooling air through the rotor during operation.
The rotor and hat are connected using a floating mount system with 8 or 10 high-strength alloy steel drive pins, manufactured by Girodisc in the USA and cadmium-plated for long-term corrosion resistance. These pins handle braking loads while allowing controlled axial and radial float. Grade 12 cap screws with hardened washers secure the assembly.
To eliminate cold rotor noise, the system uses anti-noise spring washers on the rotor side of the pins. This design allows for thermal expansion under heat while preventing the rattling commonly associated with floating rotors. The floating design also enables the rotor to self-center between the brake pads for consistent performance.
When service is required, only the cast iron friction ring needs to be replaced.
