This cam chain tensioner is found at the back of the cylinder head of VW and Audi 1.8T engines. This chain tensioner is driven by oil pressure but controlled via the electronic solenoid attached to the chain tensioner.
When this Chain tensioner fails you may experience engine noise coming from the cylinder head that sounds like the engine is oil starved. If you check you have plenty of oil in the vehicle and are still experiencing this noise the Camshaft Timing Chain Adjuster on your vehicle may have gone bad.
Another potential symptom of this could be engine fault code.
