Waterpump and Thermostat housings are the most common issue on the 2.0t and 1.8t Gen 3 engine.  These these thermostat housings leak causing coolant to run down the front of the engine block onto the ground.  This waterpump assembly is located on the dront of the engine bleow the intake manifold.  It is belt driven off the balance shaft of the engine.  

Replacing this waterpump for the average DIY user involves removing the intake manifold to get better visibiltiy on your waterpump.  Once the manifold is off you can replace your waterpump/ thermostat assembly.  Replacing the included drive belt requires removal of the intermediate shaft gear, which is held on by a reverse thread bolt.
