Most commonly the symptoms of the trunk latch assembly failing is that the trunk will not stay shut.  This tend to start happening intermittently during cold weather then will tend to become more frequent as time passes.  If you trunk will not stay shut and you are sure that the striker is properly adjusted, this is very likely to be the part you need to make sure your trunk will stay closed.
