The thermostat for the 2.0t FSI engine is located on the front of the engine block below the intake manifold. When VW and Audi 2.0t FSI engines are going bad they generally fail in the same ways. When most VW and Audi 2.0t DSI thermostats go bad they will often get stuck open. This will cause the vehicle to run cool, and have a tough time getting up to operating temperature. This will also often create fault codes in the engine that say "Malfunction in cooling system".
