Most commonly this part is replaced due to the plastic arm breaking off. This will result in the trunk not unlocking when you hit the release button on the remote or the door. The most simple way to check this is to remove the trim on the deck lid and look that this unit. You also can often hear the trunk actuator operating, but nothing happens when you do so.
