The oil pan on your 2.0t TSI VW or Audi engine sits on the bottom, and holds all of the engine oil. The oil drain plug used to change your oil is also mounted in the oil pan. Oil pans generally need to be replace for one of 2 reasons. First is the drain plug threads back become stripped. This generally comes from overtightening. The second is due to contacting road debris, rocks or other materials while driving. In this circumstance the TSI metal oil pan will be cracked or torn allowing all of the oil to come out of the engine. If this happens on your vehicle you should turn you engine off immediately, and have to vehicle towed so you can replace the oil pan.
Please note this oil pan has an hole for and oil level sensor, if your vehicle does not have an oil level sensor you must purchased the below part numbers to seal the opening for the sensor
