The IS38 turbocharger mounts the the back of the cylinder head on MQB 2.0t engines. While many previous VW and Audi models had the exhaust manifold built into the turbo, the IS38 bolts directly to the head. This is because the MQB 1.8t and 2.0t engines have an exhaust manifold built into the cylinder head. This is great for overall performance and makes the IS38 turbo a smaller comoponent than previous generaltions.
This turbo is an OEM turbo found on the Golf R, Audi S3 and TTS. This turbo is also very commonly installed on other MQB models. This upgrade is most commonly done on the 2.0t MK7 GTI, but is also done on most 1.8t and 2.0t MQB models as an upgrade. Paired with the right software the IS38 will give you a huge bump in power while still maintaining the stock like driveability.
